SCV Weekly News by RSS feed
What is an RSS feed? Simply put, it is a more convenient way to package news content for
syndication. At first, it may seem like high-falutin' technology, but once you use it, you'll wonder
why you didn't try it sooner. BTW (by the way), there are hundreds of newsfeeds available to
you, like sports, politics, hobbies, current news, etc. Check out available RSS feeds at
Yahoo News.
To use the news feed, you will need a version 6 (or above) browser with an RSS plugin. Instructions for
the three most common browsers are below, followed by the instructions for subscribing to the SCV News feed.
Internet Explorer Click to update
IE has a free plugin available called "Pluck". Click here to
install it, restart the browser, come back to this page, then click the orange button to go to the RSS feed. When you arrive on
that page, you should see a button near the top that says "Feeds". Click that to subscribe to the SCV News.
Firefox Click to get Firefox
Firefox, from the Mozilla Group that wrote Netscape, is the hottest new browser on the market. Free, better than
IE, and much safer to use on the web (IE has significant security issues). It has an RSS plugin called "Sage" which is easier
to install than "Pluck", and easier to use. Click here to install it, then return to this
page and click the orange button to go to the RSS feed. When you arrive on that page, check your bookmarks to see if you have one
called "Sage" or My Feeds" or similar. If not, make one, to keep RSS feeds separated from web pages. Then click
"Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page", and save this page under "Sage" or "My Feeds" or whatever. Under "Options", select
"Show Feed Item List", as this makes browsing news items easier.
Netscape
Alas, Netscape does not have a plugin for RSS. Use Firefox.
