Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Darryl Starnes and currently serve as the Chief of Heritage Defense for the Sons of
Confederate Veterans. I would like to extend a sincere welcome to all of you from myself and the Heritage Defense Committee.
You will find the other members of the Heritage Defense Committee listed in the Heritage section of this site.
The structure of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Heritage Defense consists of your Heritage Defense Committee working in
close conjunction with the Division Heritage Chiefs, Division Commanders and your General Executive Council. The Heritage
Defense Committee investigates, coordinates and supports the defense of the membership in Confederate and Southern Heritage violations.
Violations should initially be reported to Camp Commanders and subsequently to the Brigade Commanders to be handled
with the Division Heritage Chief and Division Commander. Heritage Chiefs and Division Commanders will request support
from the Heritage Defense Committee if support and coordination is desired from the Committee. However, the Heritage
Defense Committee should be advised of all heritage violations engaged by a Division.
An individual, with the best of intentions, taking on a Heritage violation alone can sometimes do more harm than good. Please
wait for your troops to come up in the form of organization, planning and man power for an appropriate and meaningful response.
The Heritage Defense Committee will endeavor to post current Heritage Defense matters and their status on this Web site in
order to keep the membership informed of on-going violations and subsequent defenses.
The Committee and I look forward to serving the membership in our defense of the honor and memory of the Confederate
solider, his flag and the symbols of the Confederate States of America.
Please email me if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Darryl F. Starnes
Chief of Heritage Defense
