Camp Webmasters:
If you would like to display Confederate-related news links on your website, you can now do that,
if you are able to modify your HTML code. I realize that some people build webpages with
automated programs that make this difficult, but you may still be able to add this feature. Consult
your documentation.
There are currently two options available to you, listed in the order in which they may appeal to you:
- A small popup window on your homepage, triggered either by the page loading, or by clicking a link or button.
Clickable headlines are displayed in this window, which is populated by a network connection to the SCV main site.
Five random headlines from the most recent posting are displayed. The headlines will change each time the window is
opened, and the base set of headlines typically change each 7-10 days. You can define the font size.
NOTE: many browsers now have popups disabled by default, so many people will miss these headlines.
- If any page on your site is a PHP page, the headlines can be displayed directly in a colored box. Your server needs
to have PHP installed on it, with "allow_url_fopen" enabled. You can define the color, and the font size.
Click here to see a popup window demo,
click here to see the PHP mechanism, and here for
instructions for setting this up on your site.
NOTE: since the window triggered by a link defeats the purpose of a news feed, and automated popups may be disabled by
many people, the second option is actually the best. If you have PHP on your server, as is often the case, you could rename
any page on your site to .php without actually having any PHP code on it. The instruction page has details on that as well.
